Changes in Altitude When Traveling
People are aware of this issue with flying. They seem to have no idea this can apply to traveling by bus or train.
It will likely not be as obvious and extreme as with flying, but if you change altitude substantially --a few hundred feet or more in a few hours -- it can cause ear pressure and sinus pressure.
Most reasonably healthy adults may not really notice it. If you have significant sinus or ear issues, you may be uncomfortable.
Small children may cry and not have any means to tell you why. They don't know how to pop their ears.
A bottle, sippy cup, chewing gum or similar typically helps them relieve the pressure on their ears.
